Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chairman Ahod “Al Haj Murad” Ebrahim resigned as chief minister of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), according to Presidential Peace Adviser Carlito G. Galvez, Jr.

His office released a copy of the resignation letter on Monday, March 17, following a statement from the MILF expressing “frustrations and concerns” over President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s appointment of new leaders in the region.

A copy has been circulating online but questions were raised about its authenticity. The MILF has not commented on the document.

“I saw the original copy of former Chief Minister Murad’s resignation paper that he submitted to the President. I have a true certified copy that I personally received now in my possession,” Galvez told PCIJ in a message.

Galvez maintained that the leadership reshuffle in the BARMM “adheres to both the letter and spirit of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro and the Bangsamoro Organic Law.”
