The Commission on Elections en banc on January 9 approved a list of election hotspots in the May 2025 midterm elections.
Thirty-eight towns and cities — placed under the red category — have grave security concerns. They include areas in Isabela and Masbate provinces in Luzon; Samar and Iloilo in the Visayas; and Maguindanao Del Norte, Maguindanao Del Sur, Lanao Del Sur and Basilan in Mindanao.
