The PCIJ recently produced two new books and a two-volume documentaies on media killngs in the Philippines, with support from its donors and partners.
The first book, The Philippines 2011-Asian Media Barmeter, was published by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung. PCIJ Executive Director Malou Mangahas served as rapporteur and PCIJ Research Director Karol Anne Ilagan as researcher of the report on the state of media, freedom of expressions, and professional standards and practices in the Philippines.
The seond book, Warriors of Nature: Community Action in Protected Areas, is an anthology of 10 PCIJ reports on innovative community initiatives in as many protected areas, including Tubbataha and Mount Kitanglad. The stories were authored by PCIJ Multimedia Director Ed Lingao, PCIJ Associate Producer Winona Cueva, and writer Jaemark Tordecilla. The project was a partnership with Tanggol Kalikasan, and drew support from the IUCN National Communities of the Netherlands and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The two-volume documentaries — Murder and Malice: Media Killings in the Philippines — were written, produced, voiced by PCIJ Multmedia Director Ed Lingao and PCIJ Associate Producer Winona Cueva, with videographers Rhoneil Amores and Rey Santiago, and editorial supervision by PCIJ Executive Director Malou Mangahas.
The documentaries include: 1. Maguindanao: The Quest for Justice; 2. Herson Hinolan: See No Evil; 3. Marlene Esperat: So Near Yet So Far; 4. Alberto Martinez: A Survivor’s Tale; 5. Cases under P-Noy: Murders on Daang Matuwid; and 6. Staying Alive: A Safety Training Video for Journalists.
