Cars in Congress

IF you want to see the latest and the most powerful vehicles the car industry has to offer, visit the parking lot of the House of Representatives. Lawmakers show they have an impeccable — and expensive — taste in cars.

In recent years, the Mitsubishi Pajero was the most common SUV of choice in the Lower House. The trend is changing. These days, the SUVs come in various forms, sizes and brand names. Nissan Patrols are aplenty. So are Isuzu Troopers. Eye-catching in their seeming somber stance are Ford Expeditions, Chateaus, Everests and Tamaraws. There are also Chrysler Town and Country, Ssangyong Rexton and Toyota Land Cruiser vans.

Rep. Acmad Tomawis of party-list Ang Laban ng Indiginong Filipino (ALIF) was seen alighting from a Hummer sporting a number 8 plate, front and back. Hummer’s look-alike, the Mercedes Benz G series, is the choice of Quezon City Rep. Mary Ann Susano. Of course, there are BMWs, Jaguars and Mercedes Benzes in medium sizes, too.

Both the Hummer and Benz G series cost around P3 to 6 million while the Ford SUVs are worth P1.5 million and up. Basilan Rep. Gerry Salappudin’s Korean-built Ssangyong Rexton ranges from P1.7 to 2.2 million (exclusive of taxes).

In the beginning, the number 8 plate showed the province and district of the lawmaker using the vehicle. While the vanity plate was displayed in front, the regular plate number was kept at the back. But these symbols of responsibility and accountability have been ditched. These days, very few lawmakers keep the regular plate, as many have opted to sandwich their cars with the 8 vanity plate. There is no way of knowing who owns the car.

Beginning today, we are posting your congressman’s car of choice, after visiting the Batasan parking lot.

no wonder they spend millions just to be elected or reelected. and they’ll say it’s all for the sake of serving the people. but do people really learn and getting wiser from all of these? judging on the actions of comelec employees everytime a famous personality files for his/her certificate of candidacy, i am overcome w/ hopelessness. those are professionals and look at their actions. how much more the mass majority.

The only people driving with distinguishing plates on their cars are the Diplomats to signify their diplomatic immunity, but anyone can have his/her own custom/vanity plate at his/her own expense from $250 up. Our elected official won’t be caught driving a car with a number so and so to signify a position. To the ministry of transport, everyone is equal other than the diplomats.

Well, if you are that vain, you can paint your own Big Announcement to the World on your own vehicle of your Position like Member of the Parliament or Mayor of Mississauga.. By the Way Mayor Hazel McCallion of Mississauga finally gave up her license (she’s 85) and accepted the city offer of chauffeured limo after 35 years of continuously serving her people.

I don’t really mind people owning and driving luxurious cars as long as they bought them with their own honestly earned money, but congress members, who are mostly suspected of corruptions only re-enforced the suspicions of their sources.

Just imagine these lawmakers comfortable in the backseats of their luxury cars cruising along the potholed streets of metro manila, looking at children begging along the streets, homeless people wondering with nowhere to go, commuters boarding carbon monoxide pumping jeepneys and tri-bikes and go to the halls of congress and start their day busy thinking where to get more funds for more luxury cars, instead of recalling of what they just seen and do something about them…

well, that happens only during election campaigns

let’s see the amigo ng bayan convert his 7M worth of motor vehicles into biofuelled ones come campaign-sortie time…

I would like to request that you include in the thumbnails the yellow 2006 Corvette Sports car recently purchased by Congressman Gerardo Espina Jr of the Lone District of Biliran for Php8,000,000.00 pesos.

I hope he can explain where he got the money to pay for this. I don’t think the bank will lend him money to purchase this vehicle when his salary is only $36000.00 per month. As a Finance Manager, I don’t think he meets the capacity test to allow the bank to lend him Php8M.

Please explain.

I don’t know if these could be considered top of the line vehicles. The Expeditions are early ’00s, and one is using a Ssangyong?! The only fault you can find in driving that is very poor decision making. If you want to see government officials living it up in their snazzy cars, why don’t you guys look at Mayor J.V. Ejercito, who goes around San Juan in a 2005 Range Rover and a brand spanking new FERRARI! WOW! Masang-masa ang dating talaga. I don’t think anyone in government can top that right now.

tnx pcij for posting this “immoral car” showroom in congress. as an ofw braving the exile, i can’t help but imagine how easy it is to identify the real partylists representatives of the marginalized sector just by looking at their cars. isn’t it obvious? How about a Hummer H2 for a “representative of the marginalized sector”? Anyway, if you don’t have one, you might be accused of supporting the rebels. This is really nasty… do good and end up dead.

CORRECTION LANG PO

I’m sorry for skewing the facts. I re-checked with another San Juan resident and Mayor J.V. Ejercito does not have a 2005 Range Rover, its a Range Rover SE which is far more superior in price and performance than a regular Range Rover. Also aside from the Ferrari, he also has a new Porsche 911 cabriolet!!! Wow!!! Walang tatalo dyan!!!

Correction to my previous post. Congressman Gerardo Espina Jr’s salary is around
Php36000.00 pesos per month Not $36,000.00.
His SAL reveals around Php12 million gross and the car costs him Php8,000.000.00 pesos.
Biliran is one of the poorest provinces in the Philippines.

the fact that these vehicles cost at least 2 million each shows how luxurious life has become for our respectable tongressmen.

indeed, what a lucrative profession being a politician has become. no wonder why some people will kill just to eliminate their opponents.

the only congressman I know that is poor and without a car is Waykurat. I heard he is riding a bike instead and stays in the quarter of Batasan complex. and of course, also the late ex col. Aguinaldo who’s only renting a small apartment near the Batasan.

no wonder why rich greedy person wants to be a politician rather than investing his money in a commercial businesses. to be an elected or govt. official is obviously more on gaining money, from kickbacks and bribes, than losing…and yes, no sweat at all..just pure guts, greed, and selfishness. How i wish sooner or later someone will vandalize their luxury car that says, THANK U FOR THE CONVENIENCE, UR TAXES IS NOW WORKING FOR ME.

i’m not surprised that Manny Pacquiao will run as congressman in his native province. i guessed chavit singson had advised him to enter politics..and the motivation? PERA.. bago maubos ang lahat na kinita nya sa boxing he should seek any political position to maintain his finances and extravagant lifestyles. eventually he will become one of them, greedy and corrupt. PUSTAHAN PA TAYO EVERY YEAR BAGO SASAKYAN NYA…

what if these congressmen just owned the cars from their own pockets? usually they come from rich families right???

or, if they get some discount in some dealership or something?

just asking.

PS. i dont have a relative that is a politician, i hate them like i hate cockroaches.
PS2. i would want to have a federal government in the philippines as much as possible. I think this is the only way we know which province is most self-sufficient. then we get rid of all those artistas running for public office.

tigilan na ninyo ang mga UGALI ninyo na UTAK DUKHA, if you have the evidence na ninakaw nila ang ipinangbayad nila, CAN YOU PLEASE FILE CASES AGAINST THEM, AND PCIJ PLEASE ASSIST THEM. The only objective that congressmen run for the said position is to have a very luxurious vehicle wherein they could show to their other colleagues in the Congress. Also, its the only way that they could regain the money that they have used during the campaign period. Most of the political candidates would use the “masa” during campaign period but when they are now elected on the said government position, that’s the time that they would “assault” the people by “robbing/stealing” of government funds/money that is intended for the Filipino people.

This is the main reason why they spend so many millions in the elections and earn a meager salary of just P36,000.00 pesos per month or P450,000.00 per year. Imagine, some are willing to kill each other just to get the “Pork Barrel”, aaayyyy sorry, position pala. Ang pinoy kahit saan man school graduate, kahit UP pa, pag nappwesto, buhay kurakot na.

gwaping,

as far as I know the Erap plunder case is still ongoing or is it resolved already? your challenge to the commenters and the bloggers in general is just like Pacquiao challenging anyone on the street “dare to go for a few rounder with me” and you know it.

Let us not be so naive, that we don’t know that the justice system in the Philippines is not that impartial that anyone can just file a complaint and the authorities will further investigate to dig for more evidence to warrant charges.

Let us not be so daring when we know that Money and Power talks the loudest and is one of the most important components of the Justice system and let us not be that silly to assume that those possessing them would not utilize them to the fullest. But again I hope someone will take your challenge, and may prove that there is after all a semblance of justice still at work in the country. for me I rest my case and live in peace with my fellow men…

i have brought up mr jv ejercito because he is part of that family who are makamasa, partido ng masa, ek-ek. masang masa na ako sa kanila. ito sila palagi nasa tv saying they are masa and they were conspired by the elitista and mga mayaman na ayaw umangat ang masang pilipino. and yet, here is also that guy who does not have a real business background (except for the restaurants he partly owns in greenhills promenade area and the construction company he partners on the sly with vina morales’ papa cedric lee which built all these brand spanking new buildings around san juan) and he goes around in carS that could very well put every damn poor schoolkid he tries to champion to school for years! so there.

Can anybody feature the yellow corvette of Cong. Gerardo Espina jr. of Biliran Province. Sources say that he bought that car for 8-Million peso. It is a query to all, where he got the money to pay off that expensive yellow corvette. Even if you sum up his income in a year as a congressman(?)his gross will not reached millions.
Espina family is from Manila, Dayu lang sila sa Biliran. When they came to our province 12 yrs ago…They have nothing.
Not even a single car. And they only rented a small apartment which they did not even cared to pay until now.

Please try to feature the car. So everybody in the globe would see it.

The Province of Biliran is ranked No. 9 among the top ten poorest provinces in the Philippines

In contrast, the Espina Dynasty, who lorded over Biliran for the last 12 years, is wallowing in the trappings of their sudden newfound wealth and power evidenced by ownership of mansions, resorts, land properties, condominium units, businesses, commercial properties, fleet of luxury vehicles and of course healthy bank accounts.

Congressman Gerardo Espina Jr, the Representative of the Lone District of Biliran and a gambling addict is cruising around Manila on an P8,000,000.00 yellow Corvette sports car and owns expensive fighting cocks and race horses costing P600,000.00 each. He also owns farms where he keeps his fighting cocks and race horses.

While his fellow Congressmen are busy crafting laws, Gerryboy is spending his time in cock derbies and horse races , where he seems to have an unlimited supply of gambling money.

Mot bad coming from a family who came to Biliran with virtually nothing 12 years ago.

Want to know about the Espina Dynasty?

If there is anyone driving along 100 Balete Drive in Quezon City, please take a digital shot and post the photo of the sports car in this blog.
