FILIPINOS today have more favorable opinions about Islam than they had in the past, according to a recent Social Weather Stations survey.
The release of the results of the Aug. 26 to Sept. 5 Social Weather Survey coincided with the close of Ramadan today.
The nationwide survey of 1,200 adult respondents found 63 percent of those polled have a favorable view toward Islam, or an increase from 52 percent in August last year.
Other survey highlights:
- Sixty-six percent believe Islam respects the beliefs of non-Muslims.
- Sixty-seven percent view Islam as a religion of peace and not of violence.
- Forty-four percent say Muslims are as trustworthy as any other Filipino.
The survey, however, found that more than three-fourths of the respondents have little or no knowledge about it.
