“Wag kang mang-go-Gloria”

AFTER ringtones, groups calling for the resignation and ouster of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo have a new weapon of protest — songs.

manggogloria.jpgIcons of the independent music scene Gary Granada, Noel Cabangon and Cooky Chua today launched the carrier single "Values Education" from the upcoming protest album "Wag kang Mang-Go-Gloria" produced by the Akbayan Citizens’ Party in the aftermath of the killing of the impeachment complaints against Arroyo.

"Values Education" was composed by the multi-awarded Granada and performed by Grupong Akbayan-Davao, a group of musicians based in Davao City — Granada himself, Popong Landero, Marie Contaoi and Maan Chua.

The album, dubbed as the "soundtrack to Gloria’s ouster," will also feature compositions and performances by Cabangon, Chua (of indie band Color it Red), the young rap group Crazy as Pinoy, and other like-minded artists.

"Since our representatives have ceased to represent us, it is up to us to directly represent our sentiments and assert ourselves," said Granada. One way, especially for those inclined in the arts to "pursue yet another venue for reclaiming our voice" is through songs, he said, prodding songwriters and musicians from all over the country to create and share songs of protest.

Accompanied by an infectious reggae beat, "Values Education" highlights the problems that government has swept under the rug, remarked Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel. "It goes staright to the core of Arroyo’s ineptitude as a leader, and the servitude of Philippine interests to elite monopoly."

"In the meantime that she remains in power, she can at least serve as a very good bad example especially to our children and to our youth. Huwag nating tularan si Gloria. Huwag kang manggo-Gloria," said Granada, who enjoined everyone to freely make copies.

"Just don’t tamper with the recording at baka mapuna ni Mike Defensor," he quipped.

You can download the song here. Below is the song’s lyrics:

Values Education
by Gary Granada

Huwad na eleksyon
Kick-back at kumisyon
Suhol, lagay,
Graft and corruption
Ano ang solusyon
Ang sabi ng leksyon
Ika ay values education

Huwag kang mandadaya
Huwag kang magsinungaling
Ang mga panata
At pangako’y tuparin
Huwag kang manggugulang
Huwag kang mgsasamantala
Huwag kang manlalamang
Ng iyong kapwa

Gloria
Huwag kang manggu-Gloria
Huwag kang manggu-Gloria
Gloria Gloria Gloria Gloria
Huwag kang manggu-Gloria
Huwag kang manggu-Gloria
Gloria Gloria Gloria Gloria
Huwag kang manggu-Gloria

Ang pahalagahan
Kailangan ng bayan
Bahay, pagkain, kalusugan
Makapag-aral
Trabahong marangal
Hustisya at kapayapaan

Ngunit inuuna
Ng gobyerno ang utang
Pinatitindi pa
Ang logging, mining, at digmaan
Dahil di malaya
Sa dikta ng dayuhan
Lalong lumalala
Ang kahirapan

Gloria
Huwag kang maggu-Gloria
Huwag kang mang-e-
Erap Ramos Cory Marcos
Gloria
Huwag kang manggu-Gloria
Huwag kang mang-e-
Erap Ramos Cory Marcos

Gloria…

Yes, let us immortalize the follies of our wicked leaders by way of song!

Also, we are again aiding the enrichment of the world’s lexicon by adding yet another coinage.

We already gave the world the modifier Imeldific which means (as per google) ostentatious extravagance.

Mangu-gloria may mean, perhaps, propensity for ostentatious corruption?

Fellow bloggers, help me out here.

Anyway, more power to Gary Granada!

Saan ba makakabili ng record niya? Sa may SC sa UP Diliman o sa Popular Bookstore?

Sore losers. That’s all you are. If you were a jilted lover, you are nothing but a stalker. Can not let go. Pity. Get a life you fools! I don’t care if you make idiots of yourselves. But confine yourselves to an area where you don’t bother the rest of us. For the rest us, life goes on. there are places to go, people to meet, deals to be made. Can we sleep peacefully knowing that GMA is still the President? Of course we can! Just as you can sleep soundly while consorting with the Eraps, the Makoys, the Reds, the Hyatt Kiss&Tell Traitors, etc. Like a jilted lover, I know you will be plotting your next mischievous moves. Truly pathetic…tsk tsk

Its good to know that other sectors, even artist are taking their part in expressing our disgust to Gloria. In their own way, they are able to reach out & teach values specially to our youth.

Saan?

YOU’VE NEVER BEEN TO US

[Sing to the tune of Charlene Duncan’s lone hit, I’ve Never Been To Me, from the 1994 movie The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert.]

Hey lady, you lady, cursing at your life
You’re a dedicated mother and a regimented wife
I’ve no doubt you dream about the things you should have not done
But, I wish no one had talk to Garci
Like you, did son of a gun!

Oh, you’ve been to Cebu and Cotabato and anywhere you could campaign
You took the hand of a preacher man and he prayed over you in the rain (Amen!)
But you ran out of places and friendly faces and you just wanted to be free
You’ve been to the palace but you’ve never been to us.

Please lady, please lady, please just walk away
And we don’t see the need to tell you why you’re better gone today
We can see so much of you still living in our eyes
But we won’t share a part of our weary heart that’s tired of your million lies

Oh, you’ve been to Jolo and the Isle of Sulu where you did your campaign on a raft
You talked Ilonggo in Iloilo and showed ‘em what you’ve got
You’ve been hailed by jueteng kings and you’ve made some calls that a candidate ain’t supposed to do
You’ve been to the palace but you’ve never been to us

Spoken:

Hey, you know what victory is?
It’s a lie, a fantasy you created with the help of the people in places you trusted
But you know what truth is?
It’s the high post you’re occupying; it’s that apology you made that fateful evening
The same apology you may keep saying every day and every night
That’s not the truth, that’s still a lie.

Sometimes we’ve been to crying for indigent children who crave for something to eat
While you live the sweet life that those children could only dream of in their sleep
We’ve spent our life condemning the blatant cheating that costs too much to be done
Hey lady,
You’ve been to the palace (You’ve been to the palace)
But you’ve never been to us.

====================================

…Ngunit inuuna
Ng gobyerno ang utang
Pinatitindi pa
LOGGING, MINING, DIGMAAN
Dahil di malaya
Sa dikta ng dayuhan
Lalong lumalala
Ang kahirapan
===================================

Remember Bunye’s authentic tapes? Remember the X-tapes?

What you think is next?

Surely Malacanan will fignt this bad perception to the teeth… and probably would get Lito Camo to produce a nasty lyrical comedy for the opposition.

With cool melody of course.

After all Gloria has still a Billion to spend and we a Billion to lose.

wow, “galing talaga”, when i heard the news on radio yesterday afternoon i already wished to get the album immediately. then here comes pcij uploading a cut from it. thanks a lot, alecks…“nasa cellphone ko na!”

…reminds me of the albums produced by the now “infamous” rj prior to erap’s ouster…“hit na hit,” i.e., when you’re on the side of the TRUTH. if and when malacañang would answer this music genre, i am sure rj’s the man again…just like in chavit’s x-tapes…for sure it will be a FLOP this time!

“asar, talo”…that’s what some of us are posting here. however, if i may reiterate what i posted way back, i still maintain that i respect all the bloggers opinion (go ahead jonathan, say your piece…though you really sounded piqued, tsk, tsk, tsk)…except “you-know-who” (so please IGNORE that guy already!).

life goes on, really, life goes on…i, for one, am still my productive self…but we will never stop to EDUCATE people, especially the “blind” and the “deaf”, that MORAL VALUES MUST REIGN in our country. with gloria occupying the throne, i don’t think this will happen…

abetting a crime is also a crime.

“everything we need to know, we learned in kindergarten.”

from past to present:

in class…from “don’t disobey rules and regulations” to “don’t do a gloria.”
during interviews…from “don’t lie” to “don’t do a gloria.”
during exams…from “don’t cheat” to “don’t do a gloria.”

each of us…we need to EDUCATE the people…

Filipinos,

It is time to move on.

No to petty politicking. No to bickering. No to personal attacks. No to adversarial debates.

Time for closure. The Congress has made its decision and so has the rest of the Philippines, save for a few noisy sore-losers mostly based in Metro Manila.

Move on!

some chronology of events, in reverse:

evidences continue to rot, questions remain unanswered, doubts still left hanging…the real truth not yet attained.

are we to let this pass?

congress, with all the wheeling-and-dealings done by the administration, put a death blow to the impeachment case against GMA. as a “winning” gesture, GMA offers the olive branch of peace.

are we to trust her and accept it?

3 months ago, GMA said sorry for her impropriety (15 lapses in judgment) after the winning senators were proclaimed. mere “impropriety” to her but “manipulation of votes” to a thinking person…a simple case of not owning up to a wrongdoing.

are we to forgive her?

even before the gloriagate scandal surfaced, juetengate “familia arroyo” version was hot topic of discussion…with all the witnesses one day trying to pinpoint malacañang as an ultimate “jueteng payola” taker and suddenly becoming zombie-like in exonerating GMA on another day. (conspicuously noted is that recantations were done at the time when FG was in the country. “FG hypnosis” at work!)

are we to believe them?

…Filipinos…a resounding NO, NO, NO, NO…

Another post (above) in panic mode calls us “sore losers” but what he merely achieves is irony. Probably a new oxymoron “sore ‘winners’”?
