THE 6th Global Forum on Reinventing Government opened this morning here in Seoul, Korea. Organized by the government of the Republic of Korea and the United Nations, the forum carries the theme, "Reinventing Government: Toward Participatory and Transparent Governance" and gathers heads and members of government and international organizations, business leaders, members of academe, media and civil society from over 140 countries. For four days, in plenary sessions and parallel workshops, the participants will discuss themes related to innovative governance, continuing on explorations made in earlier global forums in the U.S. (1999), Brazil (2000), Italy (2001), Morocco (2002), and Mexico (2003).
This forum is none the less ambitious than other similar initiatives. It wants not only to enable participating countries to exchange lessons drawn from our respective experiences with governance, but wants as well to identify areas of cooperation and lay the foundation for what it calls a "Global Network for Reinvention."
Every time, we hope the efforts indeed make a difference.
